After-school program teaches coding and app design

More than 15 mentors inspired St. Anthony School students to study STEM subjects through the GoIT program. Mayor Barrett and staff assistant Oscar Tovar helped kick off the week-long after school coding program where 26 students participated and designed a mobile app. The mayor gave a motivational speech about the importance of technology in today's workforce, emphasizing the advantage youth have today having grown up with technology. He thanked the children for their interest in the program and encouraged them to go on and create new and inventive applications to help our Milwaukee community.

Students designed the apps to address some of the following issues: anti-bullying, safe driving and missing people. The week ended with groups presenting their ideas to the judges.
